Mobil
(painting by Nathaniel Williams)
The scene, familiar:
The curve as roads part, go their own ways,
the gentle sag of wires
that once bound us together
before towers arrived to separate us,
wires that still provide all-important power
to the light that promises the fuel
to keep us going into the coming dark.
The seen, unfamiliar
because immobile
in pigment and oil on canvas,
gathers space for thought
as the sign gathers twilight,
catching me like the silhouetted trees
that stitch land and sky together.
